The labor market appears to be moving in a more positive direction for both Wake and Johnston County, with unemployment rates seeing an overall decline in 2010. According to the Employment Security Commission of North Carolina (NCESC), Wake County’s unemployment rate fell from 9.2% in January to 7.5% by December and Johnston County’s fell from 10.9% in January to 8.8% by December. A trend that also corresponds with NC’s unemployment rate, which fell from 11.7% in January to 9.7% by December. To convert this data into people in employment, the overall number of people employed in the Capital Area over the course of 2010 rose from 477,373 people in January to 483,242 people by December, that’s an extra 5,869 people in work.
