The North Carolina Employment Security Commission Labor Market Information (LMI) Division is recognized as the primary source of labor market information in North Carolina. LMI staff have a network of labor market analysts covering the state of North Carolina, each of whom possesses a unique knowledge of the local labor market. They carefully monitor the dynamics of the regions, and disseminate information to a wide range of customers. LMI staff collect, develop, analyze, and publish a wealth of economic information of key interest to employers, including local labor force statistics, monthly employment, hours & earnings, employment and wages by industry, North Carolina economic indicators, projections, affirmative action packets, experience rating and unemployment rates.

LMI staff develop industry-specific analyses on new business formation, rapidly expanding industries, and large growth industries. This information provides valuable insight into how the economy is evolving and on the kinds of industries that are emerging and successfully growing in a given labor market. Staff also produce monthly briefings on firm-specific hiring and layoff announcements. Information is derived from press releases, newspapers, business journals, newsletters, and other public sources. The information is available in publication form or electronically from the North Carolina Employment Commission web site.

Testimonial From One of Our Businesses

“The Fundamentals of Industrial Engineering class taught by Bala and Steve was really remarkable. We covered the whole lot, which included the history of IE from its earliest beginnings, various ways to costing product, and ending with ways of problem solving and methods improvement to increase productivity. I personally received new insight on how to approach old and new jobs from a costing standpoint. I would highly recommend this class to anyone involved in the manufacturing field.”
