Under the Workforce Investment Act of 1998, the Capital Area Workforce Development Board is authorized to appoint a Youth Council as a Committee of the Workforce Development Board. 

Council Responsibilities include:

  1. Competitive Procurement of Federal Workforce Investment Act (WIA) Youth Funds

  2. Oversight of contracted Youth Services and Activities

  3. Linkages with Educational and Youth Serving Organizations

  4. Promote and Evaluate Pilot Youth JobLink Career Center Information Sites

  5. Host Annual Youth Summit for youth in Wake and Johnston Counties

  6. Advise and Report to Capital Area Board on Youth Issues

Each year, Youth Programs overseen by the Capital Area Workforce Development Board serve more than 250 young people in Wake and Johnston Counties.
